The Emerson A-100 folding knife gives you first class sharpness and strength in a refreshingly simple design. This knife was the model from which all other Emerson knives evolved from. Here are my thoughts on the knife:
What I like about the knife:
1. Your fingers are protected from lock failure thanks to Emerson's time tested liner lock. My knife has no up and down or side to side movement when in the locked position.
2. My knife came shaving sharp right out of the box. After using it for everyday utility work, it has no problem keeping its sharp edge. 154CM steel is not only sharp and strong, but also resistant to rust.
3. One handed opening with the A-100 is no problem. The thumb stud on the spine makes opening your knife a breeze.
4. At 3.6 inches long, the spear point style blade is sturdy enough to be a great cutting tool and small enough to legally carry with you almost anywhere.
5. The G-10 handle feels like sandpaper in your hand. You'll be glad to have this type of texture because it provides an anti-slip surface, which works as a safety feature.
What I didn't like:
The A-100 is not ambidextrous to allow for left handed carry. It's a shame that lefties might need to miss out on such a practical design.
Overall:
The Emerson A-100 folding knife is a great value for the money. You have the option of a plain or half serrated edge and both have a suggested retail of $188.95. Pick up this knife and you'll have a workhorse of a knife that will last you a lifetime.
